Organizational background and financial conditions of Hungarian Flora Mapping Programme was ensured by by the project called „Survey and comparitive assessment of Hungary’s natural botanical heritage” (NKFP 0050/3B/2002) led by the University of West Hungary, Faculty of Forestry, Department of Botany. After the completion of field surveys, and their organization into a database, as well as their quality control, the Hungarian Flora Mapping Database was built by the end of 2015. Based on this database, the Vascular plants of Hungary online database (http://floraatlasz.uni-sopron.hu) was launched in 2017.
